Two Young Sailors Set Solent Challenge to Support Tall Ships Youth Trust
Henry (12) and Seren (13) are keen sailors from Chichester Harbour. They’ve grown up on the water, competing at national sailing events, and discovering everything that sailing can offer. Confidence. Leadership. Friendship. A sense of possibility.
Now they’re taking on their biggest challenge yet a 10-mile crossing of the Solent in a dinghy, from Chichester Harbour to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, independently, for the first time.
But this isn’t just about them proving themselves. It’s about opening doors for others.
What Sailing Has Taught Them
Sailing has given us so much already; not just technical ability on the water, but also the feeling of confidence, development of our communication and leadership skills, and of course making new friends.
– Henry and Seren
They’ve been fortunate. They grew up in a community where access to the water was possible. They had families and clubs supporting them. They had mentors and opportunities. But they’re also aware that not every young person has had that privilege.
Why This Challenge Matters
This summer’s Solent crossing is their way of changing that.
By completing this challenge, we want to draw attention to the fantastic work of the Tall Ships Youth Trust, which is the oldest youth development sail training charity in the UK.
– Henry and Seren
Their ambitious target? To raise £1,000 for Tall Ships Youth Trust. Every penny goes directly to funding voyages for young people who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance — young people stepping onto Challenger yachts for the first time, discovering their own confidence, leadership, and friendship, just like Henry and Seren did.
The Real Impact
By sponsoring us in our Solent crossing you will help the Tall Ships Youth Trust continue their excellent work, enabling other young people to develop new skills outdoors, and hopefully find their new passion as we have done.
– Henry and Seren
Henry and Seren have found their passion on the water. They’re using their challenge to make sure other young people get that
