Adventure begins with a single step aboard. This week, ten young people aged 15–18 from Streetbeat joined us in Belfast for a voyage packed with teamwork, new skills, and unforgettable experiences. From hoisting sails to exploring new harbours, every day brought a fresh challenge.

Day 1

We met at the marina, where we were greeted by the crew who took us to the boat. We got to know everyone before completing some safety briefings, then we left Belfast and headed to Bangor.

Today, I learned how sailing actually works and just how much fun it is. I was coiling the ropes, which gave me a good idea of how sailing begins, and I also helped make dinner. We had chicken fajitas, which were very nice. Overall, the first day was a banger.

Day 2

Today we got up and had breakfast. We had croissants and pain au chocolat, which were okay. We then left Bangor and sailed for 10 hours to Tarbert. It was a long day, but a really good experience overall, as I learned all sorts of knots and sailing skills that I didn’t know before.

When we reached Tarbert, we took the sails down and went into the marina. Once the boat was tidy, we went for a walk and explored the town. It isn’t a very big town, but it was nice to have a look around. We then came back to the boat to have showers and relax.

Overall, it has been a good day and a great experience.

Today I woke up at half past six, got changed, and helped put the sails up so we could get ready to sail to Scotland. After breakfast, I went to lie down because I was exhausted. Every time I got assigned a new role, I woke up to do it and then went back to bed for more rest. The long sail gave me lots of new experiences.

Later on, I got up and my watch cooked dinner. After that, we took the sails down and arrived in Tarbert, where we are spending the night. We then got ready to go to the shop to buy some snacks before having showers and heading to bed.
