Ten young people aged 13 to 14 joined us for an unforgettable adventure at sea. From battling mythical sea monsters to learning real sailing skills, this voyage was packed with laughter, teamwork, and memories that will last a lifetime

Day 1

Yesterday, me and my group arrived bright and early at school, prepared to set off at 7:15 am, expecting a smooth four-hour journey with a short break halfway through.

As we were inching towards the one-hour-left mark, BOOM – a lorry had overturned and caused a one-hour traffic jam. I have never felt such irritation in my life. The weather was grey and dark, just like me in that moment. I couldn’t see the end.

Happily though, after about 50 minutes, the traffic jam began to slowly move, and we were yet again on our merry way (still torrentially raining, by the way). When we arrived in Portsmouth, our amazing, lovely and bubbly skipper, SOPHIE, met us and led us to our boat. Due to our delay, the boat was already prepared for us by our amazing crew: Liz, Louise, Sophie and the unfunny one!

This allowed us to quickly set sail and defeat and survive the sea monsters (Alex’s jokes). A magical fairy (me and my crew) then cooked us all a lovely dinner of chicken fajitas, which was cleaned up by the cleaning fairies. Overall, it was a great day, as we all tiredly went to sleep after a day of hearing the most unfunny jokes ever heard.

Day 2

Personally, I slept like a baby. I’m not sure about everyone else.

When we woke up at 7:45, the Electric Eagle Fish prepared a breakfast of beans on toast, although half of the group didn’t have beans and, thanks to SOMEONE, the toast was basically bread.

Before setting sail, we had a short walk around Cowes, where most people got food and just hung around. After we got back, we started to head off. Today, for the first time, we put up the “Angry 3” sail, which proved to be quite a challenge.

The weather was quite unpleasant, so we had some bumpy rides and splashed passengers. After we had a delicious lunch of spinach and ricotta pasta, a kraken wrapped one of its gigantic tentacles around the boat and started to drag us down beneath the water.

As a team, we bravely fought it off. This was a gruelling battle, and it took hours to finally get rid of the beast. We worked tirelessly to harm the humongous creature, but eventually, as a team, we got the job done. We sliced open its bright purple tentacle and were finally free to dock ourselves peacefully.

But after we were back and preparing dinner, something odd was discovered. That kraken attacking our boat must have had the fantastical ability to give whoever it touched superpowers! Everyone got different superpowers, but they are all very useful in different ways. Some people got super strength to be able to pull the ropes tightly. Some people acquired flight to hoist the sail up. And one unfortunate soul (Alex) gained the unique ability to shoot tiny ducks out of his fingers. That superpower wasn’t very helpful.

Then we had a delightful dinner of sausages, veggies and mashed potatoes, and forgot all about our superpowers.

Then there was a huge wave that made everyone bump their head and get a dreadful concussion, and everyone threw up, and now the boat is absolutely full of sick. It’s everywhere.

And someone went fishing!

(Yes, this all actually happened. TRUST ME!)
