Voyage highlights
Join us on this seven-day voyage from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and back.
Meet like-minded individuals aged from 18 to 80, and learn new skills, gain increased confidence and create lifelong memories.
Whether you’re a keen sailor or a complete novice this summer sailing adventure offers you the chance to challenge yourself and have fun!
If you wish, the voyage can incorporate the RYA Competent Crew course.
The beginning or end of your voyage may include stopovers along the South Coast such as Cowes, Yarmouth, Poole and Weymouth. Depending on the weather conditions, we may sail to Alderney, Sark or Guernsey in the Channel Islands. There could also be the opportunity to visit Cherbourg in France.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, night sailing, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches), traditionally known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.
You’ll also experience plenty of offshore sailing (out of sight of land). This voyage is a great opportunity to escape from it all, build your confidence and widen your sailing experience.
And if all this isn’t enough… We want you to know, that our adult sailing experiences give you an exhilarating journey that directly enables more young people to benefit from our transformational youth development programme.
You’ll hopefully get the chance to complete the RYA Competent Crew course while you’re onboard.
The cost of your RYA Competent Crew certificate is included in the price.
RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the DofE Gold Award. Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The Skipper will determine the route depending on weather and conditions.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
Meals onboard are included.
You’ll need to present a valid passport at the start of the voyage.
