JFS Challenger 4
50 young people from JFS took to the water across five Challenger boats. On Challenger 4, the crew faced their first days at sea with plenty of excitement, new sailing skills, seasickness, teamwork and, of course, lots of laughter. From meeting their crew and settling into life aboard to battling the weather, taking on sailing challenges and exploring Weymouth, they certainly made the most of their adventure.
Day 1
We arrived at Portsmouth and saw our boat. A lot of our teammates were really excited to see the boat. We met our really lovely crew: Sophie, our skipper, Mark, Sharon and Paul!!!
We saw our rooms and where we will stay for the next four days. Sophie then gave us our introduction to the boat and what we will be doing for the rest of the week.
We later set sail and helped around the boat, which was nice to see the sea (PUN INTENDED). We had some nice conversations while sailing and then later sailed into Cowes, which was lovely.
The night settled and we had a lovely jugbly shower, and the Positive Penguins cooked some dinner as we spoke about our best parts of the day and our most challenging parts.
Lastly, it was time for bedtime and we slept gracefully.
Day 2
Good morning, everyone!!
After an interesting night filled with snoring, sleep talking and gossip, we woke up and had some breakfast, which was a nice variety of cereal.
Whilst the Positive Penguins washed up, the Sparkling Seahorses helped set up the deck. Once we were all done, we all went up on deck and soon set sail.
Our first full day!! The energy was high and everyone was feeling good. We then learnt how to put up the sails and, unfortunately, some of us weren’t feeling well and we had some of us who were seasick.
We all sigh in sadness and empathy for them.
But nonetheless, we continued a couple of men down and went through the day. We then pulled into Poole and had a shower and had some dinner and did our tradition of best parts of the day and our most challenging parts.
Then we fell asleep once again 😊
Day 3
Good evening, everyone!!!!
Today we managed to wake up in the beautiful, foggy, wet morning and prep the deck in the rain. It sounds bad, but overall, we weirdly enjoyed it.
After that, we had some amazing but oddly super fatty and oily bacon baps and eggs for dietary purposes.
People started to become seriously unwell, so only five of us did the sail, taking and folding it down. I got sweets for managing and getting swept off my feet.
We all enjoyed it as we sang and harmonised like professionals, and managed to push through despite the bullying and evil, evil, evil!! Jokes about us.
We won the tug of war and severely struggled with the knots race.
We loved exploring Weymouth as we managed to get some REAL FOOD.
