Today was the first day of sailing on Exercise Leviathan. We set off at about 1530 hours with all the other Challengers – commandeered by our fellow Cadets and set off for the Isle of Wight. By the time we left the harbour, I knew at least ten things about yachts that I didn’t already.

Later, we were taught how to tie knots and other types of sailing necessities by Watch Leader George, so we could efficiently navigate and work the boat by ourselves.

We have now been docked at Cowes for a few hours. We all had showers because we were getting kind of stinky (I speak on behalf of the crew).

Me and my watch (Port), led by George, have since cooked pasta and veg bolognese, and it was a very wholesome meal. We will soon go to bed and prepare for our next day on Challenger 3, hopefully learning more things as we go along on this great journey.

Today was the second day of sailing on Exercise Leviathan. We set off at about 0900 hours with all the other Challengers – commandeered by our fellow Cadets – and set off for Poole.

We learnt a lot more about sailing and got to do a lot more fun things. Later, we were taught how to tie knots and other types of sailing necessities by Watch Leader Helen, so we could efficiently navigate and work the boat by ourselves.

We have now been docked at Poole for a few hours. We all had showers because we were very dirty. Me and my watch (Starboard), led by Helen, have since cooked chicken Kievs and chips.

We will soon go to bed and prepare for our next day on Challenger 3, hopefully learning more things as we go along on this great journey.

We were tacking and gybing, and we were also doing a man-overboard drill. Overall, today was very fun.

Today was the third day of sailing on Exercise Leviathan. After an early wake-up at 0645 hours, we set off from Poole under harsh conditions at approximately 0930 hours.

The journey was wet and winding, with a lot of sleepy sailors. Due to the heavy downpours throughout our day, we were forced to cancel the boat race and speedily proceeded to the docks.

After a long and wet journey, we successfully docked at Weymouth at an early time of around 1500 hours.

Thanks to our early arrival, we practised our knot skills furthermore at the Tall Ships Beach Olympics™, as well as some tug of war.

Our watch – Port – managed to cook a much-loved dinner of Thai satay noodles.
