This is the ultimate way to kick off the New Year! Join a thrilling 4-night Exploration voyage on board our iconic 72ft Challenger yacht along the South Coast.

Whether you’re an avid adventurer, looking to boost your confidence and communication skills, or exploring sailing as potential hobby or career, this voyage is for you.

You’ll meet new people and take part in sailing activities such as helming, winching, and navigation, gain hands-on big boat experience, and learn about the ocean.

You’ll also develop essential life skills like problem-solving, develop practical teamwork skill and communication and social skills.

Young people with no sailing experience are welcomed on this Voyage of Exploration. Our experienced crew and mentors will make sure you feel safe, supported, and encouraged throughout the voyage.

Voyage of Exploration is the first stage of our three-voyage programme of Exploration, Empowerment, and Leadership, designed to help you on your personal growth journey.

You’ll have the opportunity to achieve the RYA Start Yachting certificate, the first step on your sailing qualifications journey. Plus, complete your DofE Gold Award residential if this applies to you.

Possible stopovers

You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the South Coast. Likely port visits include CowesYarmouth or Lymington, before heading to Poole to see in the New Year, with plenty of time to explore ashore.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

Beyond just sailing, you’ll walk away with new skills, newfound confidence, and new friendships.

Throughout the week, you’ll experience helming a yacht, sail handling, ropework & knot tying—all while learning essential safety practices on board. If conditions allow, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.

You will be grouped into one of two watches (teams – traditionally known as Port and Starboard). In your watch, you’ll be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from deck duties and maintenance to cooking and cleaning, fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork.

At the end of the voyage, you will receive a personal assessment covering how you have grown your leadership, teamwork and communication skills – a great addition to a CV or personal statement for university.

Further information

The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.   Winter sailing can be amazing, but it will be chilly, so bring plenty of warm layers and wellies/waterproof boots.

Your Skipper can also recommend you for our volunteer crew training programme, if they feel you have the skills and attributes that we’re looking for. You can speak to your TSYT crew if this is something you’d be interested in and you’d like to find out more.

All meals on board are included.
