Voyage highlights

See in the New Year and experience new adventures, make new friends and develop life skills
A safe and exciting sailing experience along the beautiful south coast
An ideal starter voyage - no previous sailing experience required
The voyage is designed for young people aged 12–15 to explore the ocean alongside like-minded peers
On board, they can begin their RYA journey and work towards achieving a RYA Start Yachting certificate.

A once in a lifetime opportunity to welcome a NEW YEAR sailing along the south coast. This festive five-day Exploration voyage offers young people the chance to step outside their comfort zone in a supportive, structured, and fun environment

Sailing from the vibrant waterfront city of Portsmouth, young people will live and sail onboard our iconic 72ft Challenger yacht, while learning about the ocean, teamwork, and themselves.

They will meet new friends, take part in hands-on sailing activities, and develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and social skills, all while having fun at sea.

Young people with no sailing experience are welcomed on this Voyage of Exploration. It’s the first stage of our exciting three-voyage journey of Exploration, Empowerment, and Leadership.

Our trained crew and mentors ensure young people feel safe, supported, and encouraged throughout the voyage.

The voyage also provides the opportunity to achieve the RYA Start Yachting certificate, the first step in their sailing qualifications journey.

Places you’ll visit

You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the stunning south coast.

Stopovers likely includeCowesPoole, andWeymouth, with plenty of time to explore ashore.

Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales along the way.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence and self-esteem. New friendships.

Throughout the week, they’ll experience helming a yacht, sail handling, ropework and knot tying, as well as learning how to keep safeonboard.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard.

In their watches, young people will take turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from deck duties and maintenance to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their teamwork and communication skills.

Further information

The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.   Winter sailing can be amazing, but it will be chilly, so bring plenty of warm layers and wellies/waterproof boots.

Your Skipper can also recommend that you return for another voyage and continue your personal growth journey through our three-voyage programme. If this is something you are interested in, you can speak to your TSYT crew to find out more.
