Voyage highlights
This is the ultimate way to kick off the New Year! Join a thrilling 4-night Exploration voyage on board a 72ft Challenger yacht along the South Coast. Whether you’re an avid adventurer, looking to boost your confidence and communication skills, or exploring sailing as potential hobby or career, this voyage is calling your name.
Get ready to explore life onboard, meet new people, and boost your confidence and self-esteem. You’ll learn new skills, sharpen your teamwork, improve your communication skills and create unforgettable memories.
Plus, complete your DofE Gold Award residential and earn your RYA Start Yachting certificate (the first step on your sailing qualifications journey).
You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the South Coast. Likely port visits include Cowes, Yarmouth or Lymington, before heading to Poole to see in the New Year, with plenty of time to explore ashore.
Beyond just sailing, you’ll walk away with new skills, newfound confidence, and new friendships.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience helming a yacht, sail handling, ropework & knot tying—all while learning essential safety practices on board. If conditions allow, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.
You will be grouped into one of two watches (teams – traditionally known as Port and Starboard). In your watch, you’ll be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from deck duties and maintenance to cooking and cleaning, fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork.
At the end of the voyage, you will receive a personal assessment covering how you have grown your leadership, teamwork and communication skills – a great addition to a CV or personal statement for university.
You have the chance to complete the RYA Start Yachting course while on board.
The cost of your RYA certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase on board for £6 (cash only, payable to the Skipper).
All our voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award. If you’d like to complete this award on your voyage, just let us know before you set sail.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables. Winter sailing can be amazing, but it will be chilly, so bring plenty of warm layers and wellies/waterproof boots.
Your Skipper can also recommend you for our volunteer crew training programme, if they feel you have the skills and attributes that we’re looking for. You can speak to your TSYT crew if this is something you’d be interested in and you’d like to find out more.
All meals on board are included.
We believe everyone should have the chance to experience a life-changing voyage and realise their potential.
Bursaries Available: If you’re a parent facing financial constraints or a young person who has faced, or is facing, personal challenges (this could be a learning disability, you are a young carer or are not currently in education) we have funding available to support you.
