Voyage highlights
This five-day, immersive sailing adventure is the perfect opportunity for you to build your confidence, resilience and life skills, while making new friends and exploring our ocean environment.
As a TSYT ‘Voyage of Exploration’ onboard our 55ft ketch, you do not require any prior sailing experience.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your confidence and self-esteem, while increasing your social and communication skills.
You can also use the voyage to achieve your RYA Start Yachting certificate and tick off the residential section of the DofE Gold Award.
You’ll sail through the Solent and along the South coast, possibly including sailing along the stunning Jurassic coastline. Be sure to pack your camera as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales along the way.
Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence and self-esteem. New friendships.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard. If conditions permit, you’ll also get to do some night sailing.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills — a great addition to your CV.
The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price.
RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All voyages of four nights or more qualify for the DofE Gold Residential award.
Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on the weather and other variables.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
All meals onboard are included.
