Fleet Investment Appeal – a big thank you from TSYT!
Your support has helped secure our fleet for the next generation
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity you have given in response to our Fleet Investment Appeal, which launched in May 2024. In that time, thanks to your very kind donations, an incredible £192,632 has been raised to help enhance and upgrade our fleet of four 72ft Challenger yachts.
Our mission is to ensure the fleet are able to continue operating safely and sustainably for the next 20 years. To do this we needed to carry out vital upgrades to modernise and improve the fleet, future proofing them for the next generation.
Almost 12 months on, and your support has already had a positive impact. We’re delighted to share with you the upgrades happening on our fleet…
- We are currently replacing many of the sails, including 3 mainsails, 3 staysails and Yankee 2 and 3 sails across the fleet
- Challenger 1 has been fitted out with new bunks
- Challenger 2 has had its sail locker sole board landings replaced
- We’ll be replacing the jammers in the near future
- Rigging work is taking place across the fleet, replacing metal tangs due to wear and tear, and putting new toggles on the forestays
- We are investing in new halyards and other lines
The entire fleet has received its annual haul outs and associated work, which includes antifouling, rust treatment and prevention, checking and replacement of prop shaft bearings, general cleaning and maintenance, and safety checks of all equipment; including external coding survey’s. And mid-term inspections are due to take place between November 2025 and January 2026.

We continued our collaboration with sailing electronics company B&G UK, and were able to replace the instrumentation on Challenger’s 1, 3 and 4, with Challenger 2’s upgrade due to take place later in 2025.
The ease of use and flexibility of the new instrumentation is really exciting and has revolutionised our navigational procedures, as well as allowing us to train our youth crews on modern equipment.
This work has taken place thanks to your generous support. You have helped make significant improvements to our vessels, ensuring their future, and enabling more young people to have the best voyage experience possible – a big thank you once again.
