Ten 15-year-olds swapped solid ground for the open sea, setting off from Belfast on a voyage they won’t forget. Here’s how it went.
Day 1
Today we went from Belfast to Bangor and it was good. We learnt knots and stuff, which was hard, but we picked it up greatly. We had lots of great banter in the snake pit.
Our watch made chicken fajitas — it was tasty and SCRUMPTIOUS!!!
Then we had a trip to the marina centre and had showers. We got onto the boat and met our crew: Paul, Kitty, Sophie and Thea (Johanna). We learned all about the safety of the boat and how the Milton Keynes of Northern Ireland is Ballysally, and the Portsmouth is Circular Road. Then we killed time by practising man overboard drills, which involved rolling people up into a blue Dorito. When it came time to leave Belfast, we were enthusiastic to help keep the boat safe by holding the large flotation balls (roaming fenders), and it was all good craic at the end of the day.

Day 2
Today, we got up at the crack of dawn so we could sail to the Isle of Man from Bangor (it took 14 hours). There was fog on and off and the boat was tilted at 30° for most of the journey — all of this surprisingly made it more fun.
We had a jacket potato up on deck for lunch. A member of our watch brought a speaker and we played some beats in between keeping a look out and steering the boat. We also had a competition to finish off all the biscuits in the biscuit box, so that it would be filled with better ones, like Jaffa Cakes.
For dinner we had some spaghetti bolognaise, which most people had on deck as they were feeling a little sick. We docked at 10:00 in Douglas on the Isle of Man — it was cool seeing all of the lights and boats and ferries in the harbour. We did a little bit of a tidy up before going to bed for a well-earned sleep.
Tomorrow we are getting showers and going for a walk to explore.

Day 3
We woke up today at 8 o’clock and got pain au chocolat and croissants. It was a delicious French breakfast with lots of chocolate.
We all left the boat to explore Douglas and get long awaited showers. Douglas was not what we expected. The Isle of Man was different to what we expected — we had expected a small place with not much to it.
After exploring we had lunch, then left Douglas and headed to Peel. It was a fun, chatty journey to Peel. Everyone was getting along GREAT. We did some more sailing and learnt how to gybe the boat. Once we made it to Peel, we had to do a lot of work to dock the boat.
Stevie pulled a masterclass and got the whole crew awesome, delicious, delightful fish and chips. And now we are going to head off and get ice cream before the shop shuts at 9pm, and maybe play on the beach.
