10 incredible young people from Atlantic College on board Challenger 3 share their experience in their own words through their youth development journey with us!

Day 1

23/3/2026 20:16

Today was the beginning, the beginning of the end of a great expedition. We sailed, froze, tacked and learnt to tie knots- more specifically CloveHitch and Bowline knots.

We discovered the strength of the tide and participated in the dramatic rescue of our beloved buoy who is now safely stored in his Buoy Box.

We learnt the basics of the lines; where they go, what they mean and how to use them. We were accompanied by the cheerful presence of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy while we practiced raising the sails 6 or 7 times. Invigorated by the frigid Arctic wind that carried us toward our destination we went below deck to prepare the breaking of our fast.

We had Fajitas. We were introduced to the Irish delicacy of Jai (Also known by the French as Jus) Or to the common English man as Juice, the end bits of the chicken and vegetables. The debrief was swift and full of joy, motivated by our need for sleep and rest. Until tomorrow good Blog, Fare Thee Well.

Day 2

24/3/2026 21:14

As the second day comes to a close, we recite our unexpectedly tormented journey through the Solent. We started off our journey filled with ambition and willingness to succeed; we were blind as to what fate would have instore with us. We had merely just left our dock, and then disaster number one struck. A beeping sound ran wild piercing our ears. Engine failure!!! Pulling ropes, tying knots and communicating; the crew had already jumped to action with great efficiency. Alas, this was not the end of our issue. As the crew was trying to fix the engine, the anchor jammed. Paddy, a dedicated crewmate, ran to us in distress explaining in a trembling voice the unclear situation. More challenges…

In the midst of the chaos and freezing winds, we decided to play an intense game of Mafia to ease the atmosphere.

After multiple political debates about Mercosur, calls with mechanics, sweat and laughter; the impeller of doom was vanquished and replaced. The boat followed its course chopping through the hardy waves.

As planned, we were able to come, see and conquer the waves of the Solent Sea. We all took a warm and deserved shower and prepared a comforting curry which was enjoyed with love and joy.
