Voyage highlights

A safe and exciting sailing experience along the beautiful south coast
Ideal starter voyage - no previous sailing experience required
The voyage is designed for young people aged 12–15 to explore the ocean alongside like-minded peers
The adventure helps young people build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills

This enriching October half-term voyage offers young people the chance to step outside their comfort zone in a supportive, structured, and fun environment

Sailing from the vibrant waterfront city of Portsmouth, young people will live and sail onboard our iconic 72ft Challenger yacht, while learning about the ocean, teamwork, and themselves.

They will meet new friends, take part in hands-on sailing activities, and develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and social skills, all while having fun at sea.

Young people with no sailing experience are welcomed on this Voyage of Exploration. It’s the first stage of our exciting three-voyage journey of Exploration, Empowerment, and Leadership.

Our trained crew and mentors ensure young people feel safe, supported, and encouraged throughout the voyage.

The voyage also provides the opportunity to achieve the RYA Start Yachting certificate, the first step in their sailing qualifications journey.

Potential stops along the way

They’ll sail out into the Solent and then along the south coast of England.

Likely port visits may include Cowes, Lymington or Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, with some time to explore ashore.

Takeaways from sailing adventure

New friendships.   New skills. Increased confidence and self-esteem.

Throughout the week, they’ll experience helming a yacht, sail handling, ropework and knot tying, as well as learning how to keep safeonboard.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard.

In their watches, young people will take turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from deck duties and maintenance to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their teamwork and communication skills.
