XF250901 – JFS School Gosport to Portsmouth- Challenger 4
We were joined on all four of our Challenger by 40 incredible young people for an unforgettable journey. Read about the experience from Challenger 4’s crew on this blog.
Day 1
Today we ventured onto the boat for the first time quite an experience if I say so myself.
Vibes are up and everyone is feeling joyful, singing, dancing, laughing the lot. We got onto the boat very uniformed the best boat here actually.
The skipper gave us our safety briefing, and we learnt loads about the boat we are on. Then we found our bunks and where we will sleep and have sweet dreams for the next 4 days.
Personally, I’m enjoying myself a lot especially when the boat was moving, I felt like the weight of life was lifted of my shoulders.
It’s been hard work making the boat safe getting stuff out the lockers, but it’s been good hard work and I’m feeling very excited for the rest of the week. We are currently in isle of wight which is a beautiful little place.
Well, this is the end of the blog, till tomorrow!!
Day 2
We woke up at 7:30 and all sat down to eat breakfast. we had cereal and got ready after.
Went up too the deck and started to prep the boat to start sailing. Once we started to move, we collected the sail covers and fenders and put them into the sail locker.
We learnt how to tack the boat, turning so that we picked up enough speed to get to our next destination.
Everyone got the opportunity too learn the different aspects of the manoeuvre and practice a couple times. For lunch we have pasta and sauce which we ate on the deck.
We learnt how what to do in case someone falls off the boat. We sailed for a bit longer then began to prep the boat too dock in Lymington.
Once docked we bagged the front sails and the main middle boom sail. We then ate a chicken curry for dinner and began too shower for downtime.
Day 3
We woke up at 7:15am, we went down into the galley and had bacon butties which we prepared the night before.
Then we prepared the deck ready to sail but before we went, we had to switch the normal sail to a storm sail which was bright orange and made are boat look like a highlighter to stand out when it is stormy and foggy.
As the day went on the weather got worse causing the boat to rock like we were on a roller coaster for lunch we had a fulfilling warming meal.
We went ashore for free time, and we enjoyed every bit and we talking to people that live there all their life with their art works and dogs.
This kind family very politely took a picture for us.
