Youth development is at the heart of our programme at TSYT and provides voyages for both young people and adults. As we continue to pave pathways to adulthood for over a thousand young people every year, our programme has a range of voyage types to suit different needs.
Our 3-voyage programme provides a platform for young people to develop their skills, build their confidence, establish their own strategies and approaches to goal setting, problem solving and decision making. Each journey is unique, leading to gaining qualifications, employability skills and their own journey.
You may have already experienced an Exploration voyage, daysail or weekend voyage and looking for your next steps following recommendations, or you may be looking to start your journey.
Young people can join the 3-voyage programme at the stage most appropriate to their needs and experience and can progress through each voyage over time.
Voyages of Exploration are about embracing new experiences, exploring the ocean environment, building awareness and making fun memories.

Our Young Person’s Journey doesn’t stop with joining part of the 3-voyage programme, there are other opportunities to get involved in the work we do at TSYT to provide access to the water and engage in a personal journey of their own.
Many of young people can’t wait to get straight back onboard after their youth voyage. Some even come back and join us as volunteers.
It’s a great way to spend your free time and a fantastic addition to any CV when applying for schools, colleges, universities and future jobs!
Depending on the length of a voyage, you can work towards and achieve your RYA Start Yachting or RYA Competent Crew qualification.
This includes learning about parts of the yachts, rigging, types of sail, how to tie knots, keeping lookout, man-over-board drills and steering the yacht under sail.
As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for the DofE Award, we enable more than 150 young people a year to achieve their DofE expeditions and Gold Award residential.
All our voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the Gold Award. You just need to find a voyage that suits you and book on! Take a look here. We can also offer specialised expeditions for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards to groups.
You can either split this into the practice and actual expedition over two separate voyages or do both together. Our ketch is the ideal vessel to do your expedition on as it accommodates up to 10 voyage crew.
We also have our own friendly assessor who can assess your Expedition. This is chargeable.
Just give us a call on 02392 832055 to find out more.
We can tailor voyages specifically for your group. Whether you’re a youth group, school, college, charity, social club or Government agency, we can help you find the perfect trip.
We offer everything from day sails to residential weeks and have worked with many groups over the years. These include YMCA, Scouts, Girlguides, schools, special needs schools, youth offending teams, young carers, police and The Prince’s Trust.
Our voyages offer a supportive residential environment. One in which young people with special needs can enhance their skills for independence in preparation for adult life.
We accommodate those with differing degrees of learning difficulty, attention control, fine motor coordination problems, mild visual or hearing impairments and social interaction problems.
No prior sailing experience is necessary for our dedicated voyages for young people with special needs.
So, if you’re a parent or carer of a young person with special needs or work in a special needs school or group, please get in touch to find out more.
