Voyage highlights
Set sail for your next adventure! Join a group of passionate young sailors on a seven-night France and Belgium Adventure from Portsmouth to Ipswich, on board our ocean-going 72ft Challenger yacht.
This is an Exploration+ level voyage, suitable for young people who have sailed before and want to experience more challenging sailing areas with longer periods at sea. First-time voyagers with previous outdoor and adventurous activity experience who are keen to learn and have a positive attitude towards challenge would also enjoy this voyage.
After departing Portsmouth, you’ll head out east into the English Channel, before taking on the challenge of the North Sea. Your options for port stops include Le Havre, Dieppe and Boulogne on the north French coast the Belgian port of Ostend or even Scheveningen in The Netherlands, if time and tide allow. Please be aware that all port stops and itineraries are weather dependent and are at the discretion of the skipper.
Please note that a valid passport is required for this voyage.
Throughout the voyage you’ll experience adventure sailing with offshore and overnight passages, building real skills and confidence at sea under the expert guidance of the TSYT crew.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, a great addition to your CV!
During this voyage, you will work towards achieving your RYA Competent Crew certificate.
The RYA Competent Crew syllabus includes:
- Sea terms and parts of a boat, rigging and sails
- Sail handling
- Ropework
- Fire precautions and fighting
- Personal safety equipment
- Man overboard
- Emergency equipment
- Manners and customs
- Rules of the ‘road’ (at sea)
- Dinghies
The cost of your RYA Competent Crew certificate is included in the price.
RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the DofE Gold award. Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The full voyage cost is £1050; however, thanks to generous funding aimed at supporting the ongoing development of young people who have previously voyaged with us, as well as those eager to join, we are able to offer a bursary that will significantly reduce the cost. Additionally, you have the option to pay a 30% deposit now and settle the remaining balance eight weeks before the voyage begins.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
Following your voyage with us, there’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
All meals onboard are included.
