Please tell us a bit about yourself

I am an experienced offshore sailor and racer, with over 160,000 sea miles in my logbook, including three full circumnavigations.  Recent highlights include skippering my second team in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, and a fantastic TSYT youth crew in the 2025 Fastnet Race.

I started sailing at a young age, while growing up in Singapore, and have skippered and managed sail racing teams in Hong Kong, the Middle East, the Med and the UK.  Before becoming a full-time skipper, I balanced my sailing passion with a 25-year career in telecoms, whilst raising my family.

I am passionate about building teams and developing people, and much of my sailing career has been focussed on helping others overcome challenges and achieve far more than they ever thought possible.   I have a deep love of the ocean and its wildlife and never travel anywhere without my well-thumbed book of ocean birds.

Please tell us a bit about your role at Tall Ships Youth Trust

I am a skipper on the TSYT Challenge 72s. I lead youth voyages and play a major part in the ocean racing pathway for young people. My role is to mentor and guide our crews and volunteers as they learn new skills, develop as sailors, leaders and people, and share incredible adventures together.

What has been your most memorable moment at Tall Ships Youth Trust?

My most memorable TSYT moment was during the recent Fastnet Race.  After a very frustrating first couple days, we were over 20 miles behind our competition, as we just couldn’t get the boat speed we knew we should have.

Then on the third night, we finally worked it out.  By pulling together as a team, and trimming and steering constantly throughout the night, we watched dawn rise to see we had closed the gap to a few hundred yards.   Then, in a glorious, memorable moment, as we rounded the Fastnet Rock, we overtook them. We looked at each other, as a group of people with a 40-year age range and realised that we had come together as a team and had become something extraordinary.

What is one thing you think people should know about Tall Ships Youth Trust?

The greatest adventure you have had in your life … so far!

Please describe your job in three words

Rewarding. Exhilarating. Fun.

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

World record holder for number of wine gums consumed in a 24-hour period at sea.
