Please tell us a bit about yourself

I first encountered TSYT when my mother did the 2015 Fastnet race as part of Challenger 2’s all-female crew, and I came aboard on an individual’s voyage as soon as I was old enough! I fell in love with the boats and the sense of belonging I felt as a part of the team and got invited back to train up as a Watch Leader.

Since then, I’ve been on countless voyages, the highlights of which include crossing Biscay and competing in the 2023 Fastnet race as part of the youth team! I’m currently at university, but when I’m not studying, I’m sailing!

Please tell us a bit about your role at Tall Ships Youth Trust

At sea I’m a Watch Leader, I lead a team of young people under the watchful eyes of the Skipper and Mate. I work with my watch to complete tasks on the boat, from hoisting sails, to cooking dinner and washing up!

In 2023, I was invited to become a Young Ambassador for TSYT. In this role, I attend open days and fundraising events to tell donors and potential voyagers my story, and how TSYT has helped to form the person I am today.

What has been your most memorable moment at Tall Ships Youth Trust?

Every voyage is special, but one moment sticks out. We were heading past the Needles in particularly bumpy seas, heavy rain and with waves crashing over the bow. We were all huddled together in the cockpit, soaking wet but having the time of our lives singing songs at the tops of our voices!

What is one thing you think people should know about Tall Ships Youth Trust?

That you never stop learning! Whether its information about the boats, or a cool fact from a member of the crew, I always walk away from voyages knowing a little bit more than when I arrived!

Please describe your job in three words

Adventure / Opportunity / Excitement!!

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

Probably for being able to sing many, many sea shanties.
