Forging Brighter Futures: How Collaboration Empower Young People

This belief was recently brought to life through our collaboration as Tall Ships Youth Trust with Youth Unity CIC and Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL). Specifically, Youth Unity works to support vulnerable young people by creating opportunities for them to break cycles of violence, exploitation and disadvantage. Meanwhile, OSRL, a global cooperative, provides technical expertise, comprehensive preparedness services, and 24/7 response capability worldwide. As part of their commitment to community support and education, they partnered with us and sponsored this voyage. Together, we gave nine young people a life-changing, four-night Exploration Voyage aboard one of our 72ft Challengers. The experience aimed to foster resilience, strengthen skills, and unlock potential.

Sailing Towards Positive Change with the Tall Ships Youth Trust Youth Unity OSRL partnership

The voyage focused on supporting Youth Unity CIC’s vital work. Through our unique three-voyage programme, which develops skills, confidence, and strategies for goal-setting and problem-solving, we offered a platform for young people to grow at sea. Furthermore, we proudly supported their team in giving participants the chance to break cycles of violence, exploitation, and disadvantage.

Throughout the voyage, the group took part in hands-on outdoor learning experiences designed to build teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Their days were filled with practical activities, including a man overboard drill, and the trip offered close-up views of huge ships and battleships along the way. Together they faced challenges, supported one another, and grew into a cohesive crew. By the end, they had created memories that will last a lifetime.

This transformational experience happened thanks to the generous funding and hands-on support from OSRL. In fact, their commitment went beyond financial contribution: the OSRL team joined us on the day of the voyage to meet the young people, hear their stories, and witness the positive impact firsthand.
