Streetbeats Youth Project – Exploration Voyage
We were delighted to welcome seven young people, aged 16 to 25, on board Challenger 2 for a truly unforgettable experience at sea. For many, it was their first time sailing and a unique opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience in a completely new environment.
Day 1
Harry and Carson here.
Started off the day meeting dude and the Streetbeat team at the SSE arena. At the start of the day, we were feeling a bit nervous as we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into.
Took us a while to get going due to delays in the harbour and also taking into account that we have never been on a boat like this before. We were able to learn the basic and necessary boat skills required to sail this boat.
Head to Scotland tomorrow, gonna be unreal.
It’s Leo here.
Today I arrived at the SSE Arena, met the Streetbeat team and got a Subway. Shortly after, I met; Alex, Thea, Mark, and last but not least the skip {Paul.} At the start of the day, I didn’t know what to expect. However, I am really impressed with the Challenger 2. I look forward to learning the ins and the outs of sea life!
Day 2
Today was fun, the waves were calm and there wasn’t much rocking around. I had to do things I never would have dreamed of doing originally, I was able to push through my limits and helped around the boat.
I felt like I was able to do it with the help that I got from the crew. In truth I am sore after the experience and it was challenging. But that’s what allowed me to grow past the stress and what helped me overcome my fears of not being helpful.

Day 3
Today I was in Tarbert, Scotland, the first time I have ever been anywhere like this.
We woke up and I was on the team that made breakfast. Pancakes!! Although they did not look the best, everyone’s plates were clean. Maybe because they were covered in Nutella and honey.
We got the deck prepared for our sail from Tarbert to Campbeltown, the sun was out and it was a lot different to the first few days. I have had the chance the to do things that I would never had the opportunity to do, such as check the oil on a boat engine, check the day tank levels and also steer the boat. I really enjoy steering the boat, as its peaceful and it helps me clear my mind from other issues in my life. Seeing it move and seeing the waves brings me a lot of peace.
Over the last few days on the voyage, I am able to take initiative and I would like to do it more in my personal life. Day 3 of this trip has been the most calming, but yet eventful days. The views were really good with the bright skies and slow calming waves.

Day 4
Its Neil here,
Today I went over the engine checks using the wobble system where I had to make sure the engine would run smoothly for our whole sailing from Campbelltown to Belfast.
I then went up onto the deck to run the ropes and lift the fenders, after we had set sail, we hoisted the sails to get a bit extra speed although the wind was fierce, we made it safely back to Belfast, sadly I received a minor setback but I had an amazing day regardless.
