Day 1

Monday, 30 June

The most memorable part of today was when I was making dinner and chopping up ingredients. I was at my best today when we were sailing and I got to enjoy the views in the sunshine.

Tomorrow I will be even better by throwing everyone off and stealing the boat for myself and sailing away. I am looking forward to enjoying my new life on this boat. My way or the highway.

The most memorable part of the day was when I was doing the elephant ears. I was at my best today when I was under the sun and working as a team. Tomorrow I will be even better by drinking more water. I am looking forward to enjoying life on the boat.

Day 2

Tuesday, 1 July

Woke up at 6:00am sharp. Got breakfast made, some cereal and drinks, went upstairs, put up the mainsail, lifted the anchor, and set sail towards Weymouth. Along the way we practiced putting up the Yankee and staysail.

Practiced some man overboard drills, got some basic safety skills down. Practiced tacking by changing the side of the sails from portside to starboard and visa versa with quick efficiency.

As we were going into port, we lowered all the sails and packed them away. Unfortunately, tragedy struck, the Skipper lost his hat, and we made a valiant attempt to save it, but in the end, it was for nothing. It was without a doubt the greatest tragedy of the 21st century, and surely a life altering event.

We all worked together on lowering and folding the mainsail and learnt new knots to put the fenders on the starboard side of the boat for when we came to park.

We arrived at Weymouth port at 16:00 and put away all the sails. We had our free time in the town, went to the beach.

Pretty great day.

Day 3

Wednesday, 2 July

Today we were up at the early time of 7:30 we had a healthy breakfast consisting of cereal and soon after we raised the mainsail and set sail towards our destination.

Throughout the day we raised the Yankee and the staysail and every now and then we had to tack; and a few times we jibed. We also learnt about buoys and cardinals. Sadly, Toby lost his hat. due to merciless Northwest ice winds. Posh pasta lunch which had a touch of salad to it adding a little crunch.

During dinner, we all squeeze rounded the table, and Ed dropped all his food on his shorts > Skipper set a challenge , we all named 2 fun facts about Poole with ED secretly googling it under the table.

Last night was eventful in the boys’ bunks, throughout the night, Ed was sleep talking like a about his “relationships”. Toby had a dream about Joe selling him a £200,000 Audi R8, even though Toby tried to bargain the amount down to £90,000 he did end up paying the full price because he felt guilty (what a lovely laugh).

Many thanks
Toby

Day 4

Thursday, 3 July

7.30
This morning, we woke up for bagels, with a side of cereal (again😁).

The sun was blaring down overhead by the time it came around for a beach clean, but everyone rolled their sleeves up (literally) and had filled two bin liners worth of rubbish in just enough time to skip stones before we headed back to the boat. (Sidenote: if anyone is missing a Nirvana t-shirt, there is one in currently in a binbag in Poole Marina on its way to the tip).

When we were on the beach, there was a young golden labrador named Buddy who seemed eager to join our crew. He was too eagerly distracted by a tennis ball, so we had to let him go.

Back on the boat, we discussed what we had found and then it was time to GO, GO, GO! This was a chance for us to prove ourselves. One crew, one family. We had to be gone by 10:00.

At 11.20, we slipped lines and started on our merry back towards the Solent.

With the Main and Yankee sails hoisted, we turned off the engine and were soon barraging towards The Isle of Wight at a whopping 9.4 knots! Then followed baking!

Fifteen years later emerged two lemon drizzle cakes from the oven, finished just as we were preparing for a dinner. By now we were on our way into the Cowes, so everyone quickly ate, and we started getting the sails down.

Someone had stolen our spot on the pontoon, so Challenger 1 kindly let attach ourselves to their port side. We repaid them with an entertaining Crew V Yankee Sail wrestling match, and after packing it into its bag (and saving a bug from getting trapped inside with it), we dusted off our hands and went down for cake.

All in all, it has been a good day with lots of sailing, plenty of sunshine (an equal amount of suncream), and some rather splendid lemon drizzle cake.
