Piggott School – Exploration Voyage
On the 7th of July, 10 young people age 12 to 15 joined us on a exploration voyage like no other.
Read all about their experience!
Day 1
Monday 7th July
We grouped together with our bags by the sea, excited and ready for the week ahead! Straight onto the deck and learned how to use our life jackets. Down below the deck we visited our rooms and already felt claustrophobic from the closeness of the hammocks as beds. We set off, Kitty taught us how to use the toilets… it is an arm workout. 40 pushes and your poos gone. Soon after we set off we dug into the gingernuts and decided to have biscuits until the ginger of the group decided to take friendly fire, dropping them. Now we actually decided to help, we set sail and put up the two front sails along with learning to use the winches and reeling ropes in. after a few hours out sea we saw the destination for the night and docked up in Lymington. As we were docking, one of the fenders exploded and Martha described it as a funny thing to watch. No one on tall ships has ever seen anything like that before. We then split up into two groups and jimmy was very keen on cooking this evening. Dinner was chicken and chorizo pasta, which was very delicious although took and very long 2 hours to make. Clearly Jimmy wasn’t being helpful enough. The rest of us went for a shower and had to walk along the maze of the pontoon to get to them at the port. Then the tunes were on, and we began to wash up. Emily was put on washing duty and gaged at the leftover food in the bottom of the sink. Off to bed we went ready for the early wake up and exiting day ahead of us.
Day 2
Tuesday 8th July
We parkoured out of bed, unprepared for an early morning . Yet again Kitty’s crew had the easy job of making cereal for breakfast and yet again they were full of complaints. Once we were awake full of cocoa pops we threw children off the edge of the boat onto the pontoon for “safety” it was a man over board drill just in case Arda fancied a swim. Jimmy volunteered to go first and saved Joe- although very slowly, We soon set sail to go to Poole our next destination. Arda started steering and for a while we were worried, we would crash into the cliffs- the needles. It was very choppy with the boat waving from side to side- Arda and miss Knopp found this particularly difficult. We soon learnt to Tapp the sail, causing the boat to sway even more. The burger king foot lettuce rolled off the table, and unfortunately could not be saved. We began to put up the main sail which was horrifying as the boat was tilted 35 degrees. After wraps for lunch, well prepared by Izzy’s crew we suntanned until a disaster happened- a buoy fell off the ship into the swirling sea. Star rescuer Izzie decided it would be a great idea to take a polar plunge in the choppy ocean and save the buoy using the previous techniques demonstrated earlier. After the excitement, it was teatime. Flynn shared his tea-making difficulties, and the boat was still rocking. We sailed further and made it to Poole, we then explored ashore, and jimmy got to ride a Porsche tricycle. Sausage and mash for dinner was a success and then we chilled out on deck for the rest of the evening watching the sunset.
Day 3
Wednesday 9th July
It was a lovely Wednesday morning and the seagulls were chirping loudly, then all of a sudden ‘here comes the sun doodoodoodoo’ starts blaring and echoes around the entire vessel waking us all up. Emily was fuming. It was toast for breakfast and Emily gaged at marmite. We then seat sail from Poole and headed back to Lymington. On the way we stopped off and went for a group swim and jumped off the boat numerous times, and it was extremely cold. We then relaxed for ages with the speaker blasting moana and ate many biscuits along with lots of tea making. Next, we made more tea and played cards for a while. We then arrived in Lymington and Izzys group was on dinner, they made a mess. Joe added a spoonful of golden syrup into the spaghetti bolognaise and jimmy added half the bottle of the golden syrup along with some siracha mayo. Jimmy started smoking some pasta and stirring the pot with a bendy carrot. Surprisingly it was quite delicious, although it left Kittys watch with a lot of washing up. Mia put the tunes and uptown girl was played on loop for 5 times, and in no time we had the whole kitchen spotless. We were finally allowed grandma Heywood’s flapjacks after waiting 3 days, our tastebuds went on a rollercoaster of euphoria. Joe, jimmy, and Arda had a pretty bad shower experience, off to bed for us now. Today was eventful however it was also very fun we enjoyed sunbathing after jumping in the water , and loved putting up the main sail but definitely not putting them away, btw we were made to write this because Martha realised this contained no sailing.
Day 4
Thursday 10th July
Today we had a bountiful brekkie of pork slices between baked glutenous starchy toasted product made by the evil port side crew, but only Flynn made breakfast as he is never sleeping. Bacon bap. After eating, one by one we all ascended a big pole thing, THE MAST it was really tall. It was 95ft tall. After we went up the mast, we set sail for the area around isle of Whight, we anchored there, we then swam and jumped off the boat numerous times. It was not cold. We saw jellyfish. Then suddenly, we made luncheon. Shocking. Joe and Jimmy proved incapable in the kitchen and everywhere else and Arda got really annoyed. Arda had a deadly crash out, dinner was an evil curry made by evil crewmates. After the curry Izzy’s group had to wash up. It went horribly wrong at the start where dirty water was being splashed. everywhere in the kitchen. While Kitty’s group packed their stuff and just relaxed on deck.
