Voyage: XF250214

Day 1

Friday, 14 Feb

Challenger 2

Our first destination was Cowes. When we were coming into Cowes (Isle of Wight), we saw a big giant sea monster but ended up being the other boat. We then parked into the harbour, and we had a little wander to THAT shop (which is literally called THAT shop). Happily, we weren’t with the other two Challengers because they could have stolen literally the whole entire space in Cowes harbour. Then we came back from the village, then cleaned ourselves up, the girls all panicked because the light turned off in the bathroom, and Lilly was so dramatic that she thought there was a ghost behind her!!  We were all in groups and one person in one of the group’s called Abi doesn’t know how to cut onions properly! But lucky the dinner was good.

Challenger 3

First, we set off from Gunwharf keys in Portsmouth early Friday morning. Before we left Gunwharf we were informed on how the boat works and what to do in certain situations so we can stay safe. After all of the preparation and teaching we set off heading for Cowes.

Then we stowed every loose object away and were instructed on how to steer the boat whilst raising and controlling the stay sail which is a little (but not so little) sail at the front of the boat. When we were near Cowes, we were taught how to let down the stay sail and prepare the boat to dock.

At Cowes we did a MOB (man over board) drill showing what every one should do if a crew member falls overboard. We strapped up a person on spinnaker halliard and lowered them off the boat to save the person sitting on the pontoon (acting as if they were the person that fell over board). After that we had a free 45 minutes to do what we liked in Cowes and then after our free time our watch (5 of us) started to make dinner, and the other watch went to have showers. Whilst we were waiting for the dinner to finish cooking, we played some games, and our watch had showers. After dinner we went to sleep at about 9:30.

Challenger 4

We stared the day by entering the open ocean. With clear sky’s ahead we ploughed on. And we came across captain white beard, big white beard, big black eyepatch and his troublesome monkey. He wasn’t like any other captain I’ve ever had he didn’t think he was the best he knew he was the best captain. My first voyage was very nerve-racking captain white beard telling us to work hard or he will throw us into the sea with the great white sharks while Sam sung and moto were swing around the ship with hair flying in the wind like flags. Towards the end of the day captain white beard and Sam sung, moto and the rest of the crew gathered around figuring out their next plan of attack.

Day 2

Saturday, 15 Feb

Challenger 2

We are now in Yarmouth (Isle of Wight) me (Lilly) and Amelia both agree that everyone has had too many sweets. All of us went down to the beach and met all the other people on the Challengers. Again, talking about me and Amelia, we both just actually met Prince George (Lilly’s celebrity crush, from ages ago) And he spawned out of no where helping us make our dinner tonight’ sadly out of surprise he disappeared. It was a fun day see you later alligator!!!!!!

Challenger 3

The next morning, we were given a briefing on what we were going to do and how we were going to do it. Todays mission was to get up the main sail and using it to tack and gybe without the engine. During the tacking and gybing everyone had a job to do, and no one was bored.

Challenger 4

The boat has been plagued by the swift, caused by the original swiftie. This will be known as the highly catchy swiftdemic unfortunately we can’t seem to Shake it off.

“Don’t blame me” ~ the original swiftie.

We officially as the swifties our first action was raising the flag on another challenger 1. following this, we proceeded to ‘satsuma’ challenger 3 twice. The swifties are now plotting against challenger 2.

We proceeded to practice helping save Taylor swift after going overboard as she is our lord and saviour. Furthermore, The Swifties are climbing now…… and are hoisting the main sail in Style to be able to go faster and overtake the anti-swifties.

The swifties banded together to help everyone to make fajitas and get their singing voices back ready for some card games.

Swifties out xxx.

Day 3

Sunday, 16 Feb

Challenger 3

In the morning, we woke up at 7:30 in Yarmouth we prepared breakfast at 8:00 and preparing the boat at around 8:45. Then we did mast climbing it was super fun. Then we set off more than an hour before the other boats we partly raised the main sail then sailed around waiting for the other boats.

We all met up for a race to hoist the Yankee which I think we won. After that we hoisted the stay sail and raced around a course which involved a lot of tacking and jibing. We put up the main sheet all the way. unfortunately, we came second but put in a great effort.

We had lunch at around 3:00 it was very tasty!!! We also did another MOB drill which was successful. Then we packed away all of the sails all working as a team and went in to dock then we put the boat to sleep ready for the next day. Overall, it was a great day.
