Debdale Outdoor Center XF250806 – Portsmouth to Ipswich

By Panajota - August 11th, 2025 | Posted in Voyager blogs No comments

Nine adventurous young people aged 14–17 set sail from Portsmouth to Ipswich aboard XF250806 with Debdale Outdoor Centre — an unforgettable journey of teamwork, challenge, and discovery on the open sea.

Day 1

Before we arrived at the PORTSMOsaurus exhibit, we stopped at the TESCO shop for snacks and lunch.

Unfortunately, William left his wallet in the van, so he was just window shopping. At the PORTSMOsaurus exhibit, we loaded our luggage onto the Challenger 1 jeep to explore the park.

We crossed the river to refuel at the PETROLceratops then set off on our journey.

While the starboard watch drove the jeep, we cooked the fajitas in the galley, which were delicious, but the onions made us cry.

We soon reached our anchorage near the WIGHT island and ate our fajitas.

Day 2

Today we set off on a vast voyage heading toward the warmth and comfort called Eastbourne.

Beforehand though at 6:30am we rose our main sheet, our yankee, (and the other one?)

Will joked about pushing Skye over the boat… of which he then tripped over his untied shoelace. At 9am you would’ve found many of our crew napping across the boat, Evie and Anya in the snake pit, Frederick shortly following behind an hour later at 10.

We began our game of boat murder, unsurprisingly many have already died. Oh, the horror? Watching in nothing less than shame as my fellow blog writers did maths instead of our blog. (They want you to see the maths problem (x+1) (x-1) (I’m so sorry for you))

Day 3

Today we sailed to Dover from Eastbourne between the hours of 8am and 3pm.

On the way there we saw a seal looking at us while the starboard watch made hotdogs for lunch.

As soon as we pulled into Dover, the wind picked up which was annoying as we let the sail down already.

Once we docked up, we explored the town and then had dinner which was curry which we made so of course it was spectacularly delicious.

Zach and William were killed today by Joe and Evie in the game of boat murder which is being played enthusiastically by all on board.

Day 4

At the crack of dawn, (7:30) we perilously made bacon butties while the poor, poor, port watch had to set up above deck.

Leading to our eventual voyage to Queenborough, (of which our wonderful cameraman made a time lapse (Frederick)) long, exhausting journey leaving most of us below deck looking for release from the hot sun, where both Evie and Anya taught Zachary how to plait hair (of which Zachary then continuously asked if he could plait Evie’s hair.)

Jemima and Joe played footsies for the whole crew to watch (Joe won! Twice…) With jacket potatoes in our stomachs from lunch and a delightful chili for dinner.

(Jemima would like you to know she stirred the mince) Many have died to boat murder including the plot to kill Thomas, Brendon, and the failed attempt on Skye’s life, down to 6 people left.

(Frederick wants you to know he also stirred it) (William wants you to know he stirred it the longest) (Evie does not care).

Day 5

This morning after we woke up, and an hour after leaving Queenborough port, Anya realised she had lost her phone and the tracker told us that it was still in Queenborough, so we turned  around, but gave up after realising it was in the middle of town (probably nicked), so we wasted an hour and a half.

Luckily, it meant we saw a seal with its head poking out in the water. Because of this escapade, we went past the S.S. Montgomery three times today. We also went past the micronation of Sealand.

We arrived at Woolverstone Harbour at about 7.20 pm but were unable to moor at the pontoon because the water was too shallow.

As we write this at 8.51 pm, we are still waiting for the tide to come in so that we can moor. WE FOUND ANYA’S PHONE at 9.10 pm. WE ARE MOORED at 9.23 pm. good day.

Day 6

The final blog.

Almost 6 days and 6 nights, lots of early morning music (both willing and not), unbagging the yankee and the stay sails only to then have to re-bag them later in the evening, many card games, many mind games (looking at you kitty! (logic games)), many violent tear sessions from hacking at onions, only some have managed to survive boat murder!

Nathaniel “guarded” our starboard watch from afar. We partook in arguably the best event mast climbing! Impressively enough joe managed to pull HIMSELF all the way up the mast AND across the spinnaker pole (which we climbed yesterday).

(While writing this Frederick, Jemima, and William argued once again about who stirred the most and unsurprisingly Evie STILL does not care)

Anya found her phone… she will never hear the end of this incident and loosing a phone will now be “pulling an Anya”.

Skye our watch leader is now “one of us” after finding out how old she is (she does not agree)

Skye’s head towel would not stay on whilst this blog was being written, and it was very entertaining to watch her struggle with a towel. 😊

JUST ON A SIDE NOTE NATHANIEL HAS THE COOLEST SOCKS EVER!!!!!

For our last time this is Evie, Jemima, William, Frederick, and Nathaniel.
