Challenger 3 – Nottingham YMCA
Day One
Our journey began in Nottingham, where we took a van to Portsmouth. The journey took about eight hours. We arrived in Portsmouth minutes passed five. Upon arrival we loaded everything into the boat and set off. We ate on the boat and had a briefing before clocking off and going to bed. We woke up around 7.30, had breakfast and hoisted the sails. We sailed to Waymouth harbour around 8.30 and arrived around 4:30. Some of the crew were given the chance to man the helm in shifts, as other members did different tasks, lowering sails, attaching the ropes to the dock, and putting equipment away. We also we did a “man-over-board” drill, detailing the steps to take if someone were to fall overboard. Upon arrival, we went downstairs and had another briefing about further plans. We then went out for a walk around the local area, where we bought crab lines. We also took some photos before heading to the boat. On the, boat we ate and cleaned up afterwards, before having a chat with the crew.
