George Green School join us for a 4-night voyage. Follow their journey below.

Day 1

Monday, 21 October

Today was our first day on the water, it was very wet at first and also challenging at the start.  We started off by traveling from our school to Portsmouth. On the challenger 2 we learnt a variety of many skills and tactics while sailing. It was very hectic and fun for our first day sailing to Cowes. We really enjoyed being with a ton of our friends from school.  We learned about the many different parts of the boat. We looked forward to see what the next 4 days hold.

When we had to come here we had to wake up at the normal school time and we travelled from school to waterloo station where we had to take a 2 hour train ride to Portsmouth where we went on the challenger two.

We really enjoyed putting up the sails and how it sounded like a lightsabre. It was really interesting to learn about new things we wouldn’t normally learn about in a classroom environment. However it was really cold and wet but that’s to be expected so oh well!

Finally, dinner will be soon and we are looking forward to a new day tomorrow. (hopefully the food is edible).

Day 2

Tuesday, 22 October

We started the morning with scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage baps, a delicious meal made by our in house master chefs (aka us students + Mike). We then started our duties to prepare the ship for its journey to Yarmouth. Yet before saying our goodbyes to Cowes, we went on a little wander around the town, picking up some little treats along the way.  Once we set sail, we assisted in multiple jobs, such as winching the sheets, to later cleaning up towards the night. After some time, we reached the pontoon that we would call home for the night. We brought down the sails, and was joined by a fellow challenger crew. As great as the yacht is, we decided to go for our second walk of the day, a shorter one. A highlight was a fellow crew member accidently losing their shoe to the waves by the pier. When our showers at the fantastic facilities were completed, we headed down for dinner, another brilliant meal. We ended another successful section of the voyage, Day 2 complete.

Day 3

Wednesday, 23 October

Water was present.

A few people on our boat decided to climb the mast and one specific person was able to see the Eiffel Tower all the way from Yarmouth. We drank a lot of tea and it was very hot. We raced another Challenger boat – and lost by HALF A BOAT LENGTH. They cheated. A biscuit was lost along the way, death unspecified.

We anchored in the middle of the sea and cooked a classic English cuisine: sausages and mash. After dinner, we sailed back to Cowes where we had been the day before. We dropped the fenders and lines and proceeded to relax.

Day 4

Thursday, 24 October

Hello, today we had some lovely home baked cereal and I had some bran flake cereal while Daniel ate some coco pops. Eventually after that we went over and did a full wipe down of the heads (the toilets) which was quite easy for us professionals. Lucky we completed that quickly so we then took out the rubbish. Plenty of help was needed upstairs so we went up and carried the sail cover off the sail. After that an emergency meeting was called and we all gathered for the challenge… We were told that we were entered to compete to race in an epic race which was quite epic. We marked on a map our route and the amount of points. We would have 2 hours of the race however we could’ve done it within a few minutes. With no surprise we won the race with ease. Everyone on the crew helped very much with the sailing and it was lots of fun. We had a nice sit down at the table and played some card (which Milo Marc Wells-Garrett destroyed everyone at) after the card games we all gathered to eat dinner which Jesse and Nabeela cooked. We had some pasta and Bolognese. We are currently writing the blog and we will be heading to bed shortly.
