CH1 – Scottish Adventure: Island Exploration Voyage – CF725
Individuals ages 14-17 join us for a Scottish Adventure from Greenock. Follow their journey below.
Day 1
Sunday 23 June
52 miles today never would have guessed it. We completed this journey part in a mere 8 hours, after leaving at 7 am we arrived at 4 pm thrilling everyone and ending our journey for the day.
We left the harbour and set sail with little wind. After a submarine sighting, we learned about flares and MOBs. Lunch soon came around. The crew enjoyed some healthy wraps with cheese, ham and salad. The wind dropped as we rounded the isle of Aaron, however the waves picked up. The waves caused several problems among the crew members with 1 being sick. The wind soon picked up meaning more power and time was needed to stay on a steady course. We reached our destination in good time, with a tricky approach onto the pontoon. On arrival, we found one of our battens in the main sail had slipped out causing us some problems packing away the main sail. With the boat put to bed, we had time to explore Campbelltown. We enjoyed chicken curry with rice and naan bread and some people had ham or cheese sandwiches.

Day 3
Tuesday 25 June
We started the day a bit later than yesterday and we had bacon, and egg rolls for breakfast. After this, we went through a deep cleaning stage and prepared the boat to sail. At around 10:15 we took off and hoisted up the main sail. During lunch preparation, the Yankee 2 was hoisted up, as there was a little bit of wind. The next few hours were really quiet, as the water was calm, encountering a couple of dolphins and some seals. Since it started raining a little bit, the Yankee 2 was brought down. Then two crew members taught how to make some knots, including the bowline, clove hitch, the figure of eight and more. After that we learned about points of sails and direction of wind.
By 15:00 we were approaching Tarbert and undergoing preparations to bring the main sail down, when we successfully brought it down, and packed it away, it was then time to dock the boat.
After a smooth docking we put the boat to bed and went onshore to explore Tarbet, some of the girls went to the local castle which had amazing views of the town, on a walk they had a close encounter with a snake which turned out to be an adder.
At around 7:00pm we started to prepare for dinner, which was fish and chips with peas. We sat down and had a lovely meal and conversation about Chille as 2 crew members were from there.
All in all, a successful and satisfying day.

Day 4
Wednesday 26 June
Today we started the day with pancakes for breakfast at 8:15 and we sang happy birthday to one of the crew members. After clean up and prep deck we had about an hour and a half to walk around Tarbert and by 11:30 we were doing some climbing up the mastil, after which we sailed back.
Lunch prep started at 12:30, which was pasties and beans, and lunch was eaten at 13:00.
We later put the Yankees up, although there was not so much wind, and the crew practiced how to tack a couple of times.
We then put the Spinnaker and climbed it. The next couple of hours were really calm and undisturbed.
At about 15:45 we started dinner preparations, that involved chopping vegetables and potatoes.
When we were approaching Greenock, we saw a group of dolphins who followed the boat for about 20 minutes.
Once we arrived at the port, one watch was in charge of starting to cook dinner, while the other one took the Yankees down and put them away.
While we were eating dinner, everyone described their day in one word and shared what they have learned about themselves throughout the voyage.
