30 Combined Cadet Force and Army Cadets from North London join us on CH4, CH1 and CH3 for a 4-night voyage

Organised by JFS School, this year, they added a third boat to up the competitive challenge and racing opportunities between the crews.

Day 1

Sunday, 1 September

We arrived in Portsmouth around 2PM and boarded the ship for the first time.  We had a tour and got to know the layout and features of the ship.  After prepping the deck we set off for Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.  The winds weren’t strong enough to raise the main sail, but we raised the front sail and had a competition to see who could raise it the fastest.  After we got to Yarmouth it was already 8 and getting dark, however we still had to pack away all the stuff on deck before we could shower.   The Harbour shower facilities were very glamourous, would highly recommend, 10/10.  We got back on the ship and went to bed at 10, sleeping  in the berths was claustrophobic however we had a delightful night sleep.

Day 2

Monday, 2 September

On Monday we woke up at 7:15 to prepare the boat for the journey to Weymouth from Yarmouth. First, we took up the fenders and detached the mooring warps from the other boat. Once us and the other boats had departed, we came alongside each other and did a staysail race where we almost won (aka came in last) only because the other teams are massive cheaters and failed to oblige to the rules. After that we lifted all the sails and carried on sailing and in true British fashion it started to rain. After we all ran to get our waterproof clothes, we sat in the cockpit and looked out for the non-existent dolphins. When the rain finally stopped, we had a mood-lifting karaoke session as we started approaching our destination. After we moored and had some land time we were invited by our skipper Amy, to come and play a new game with the other boats. After managing to fit 18 people round a small table we played an extremely game called pass the squeeze ending up with a mushed banana all over the table and us we settled in for an early night and were in bed by 9:30.

Day 3

Tuesday, 3 September

We set off at 8:00AM and we headed towards the isle of Wight. We did a MainSail race with the other challenger boats and we won. We then had breakfast after hours of hard labour (unpaid) (pindi chana aloo>>>>). We then did a man overboard drill which consisted of us throwing a b(u)oy over and sailing away from him to then turn around and taunt him. We then dragged him up yet he wasn’t breathing…. Furthermore, we were forced to give ourselves rope burns from the zone of decapitation and were dragged up to high above the water with nothing under us to punish us for not finishing our pindi chala aloo….. To end the day we were force-fed more pindi just to show us who’s boss. Overall though it was a great day with lots of fun and hard work learning loads of great skills for our futures and we created lots of great memories with eachother. We also had a tish til’ two singing lots of great songs about the world being a very narrow bridge.
