Challenger 1 – YOUTH ROUND THE ISLAND CHALLENGE
Day One
At 10 o’ clock we met at Gunwharf ready to set sail to Cowes. We met our skipper, Gary and mate, Sam. The other leader were Dave, Gloria and Nicky. First thing we did was to choose our bunks then meet in the saloon. After a safety brief we started sailing. Getting to know each other we put the sails up. Then then we had a talk on what we would do in an emergency most of them was to raise an alarm and then follow the instructions from the skipper. When we got to Cowes we did man over board and threw bob, the buoy, in the water. We then took forever to get him back out meaning if this was to happen when we picked up the casualties, they would be worse than should be. We parked up against a wall and took the remaining sails down. Dinner was cooked and with everyone hyper it was rather amusing. 5 people went to shower while 2 stayed behind to clear and us three stayed here to write this blog.
