Challenger 2 – Barratt Developments Apprentices
This week, we have two groups of apprentices for the UK’s largest housebuilder, Barratt Developments, joining us onboard Challengers 2 and 3 for a four-night residential voyage.
Check out their blog to read what those onboard Challenger 2 have been getting up to throughout the week.
Day 2
Tuesday 21
Today on Challenger 2, we left the dock at 07:00 after spending an hour preparing the boat for departure. We had an early start of 06:00 to beat the winds on our voyage to The Nab Tower. A series of races began with a Head Sail Race against the crew on Challenger 3 and other entertaining races, which we happily won.
Shortly after, we headed into strong winds and high waves. Consequently, the seasickness began to kick in for some, while those below deck rocked with the waves in the galley attempting to deliver bacon sandwiches to the sailors on deck. With a keen desire to continue beating the other team, we sought to change the sails at the front deck, but with limited visibility and changing winds, we decided to maintain our current sail plan to provide the other Challenger with a chance!
After a brilliant, buoyant and busy day sailing in the Solent, we returned to the port of Cowes and feasted on freshly prepared chilli con carne.
Tall tales from other members of our crew include:
- Sighting of a white whale
- Mermaid sightings
- 100ft waves
- Possible sighting of Australia
- Bob (our man overboard dummy) lost his legs, but fortunately, responded well to resuscitation and some biscuits!
