Tall Ships Youth Trust’s Round Britain Tour is heading to Whitehaven Marina!
EARLIER this summer, a youth development sail training charity announced the return of its Round Britain Adventure, which will see a total of 80 young people benefit from a development opportunity onboard one of its iconic 72ft Challenger yachts.
Tall Ships Youth Trust’s (TSYT) Challenger 4 will circumnavigate the British coastline, with eight separate crews of young people onboard for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Alastair Floyd, CEO of TSYT, said: “The pandemic stopped us from running this fantastic tour but not anymore! The tour will see us stopping at eight different ports including Plymouth, Whitehaven, Greenock, Newcastle and Ipswich.
“We’ll also be hosting several events along the way as part of our efforts to increase our reach across the country to enable even more young people to experience a life-changing voyage.”
As part of the tour, TSYT will be hosting an open event at Whitehaven Marina on Sunday 14 August, where Challenger 4 will be moored. TSYT’s four Challenger yachts were built in 2000 and are famous for having raced twice round the world, as part of the Global Challenge races.
The open event will take place between 10am and 4pm and is an opportunity for TSYT to raise the profile of its vital youth development work with young people aged 12-25 from across the UK. The Portsmouth-based charity, which has a focus on working with youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds, helps young people to realise their full potential via its unique and challenging residential voyages.
The event is open for members of the public to attend, with TSYT staff and volunteers present to offer a greater insight into the charity. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about TSYT and how they can get involved and support its vital work.
Attendees will also have the chance to tour the world-famous vessel and take part in some fun onboard activities.
