Challenger 2 – Debdale Outdoor Activity Club

By Tall Ships - July 26th, 2022 | Posted in Voyager blogs No comments

Onboard Challengers 1 and 2 this week, we have a group of young people from Debdale Outdoor Activity Club, in Manchester.

Read their blog to find out what they’ve been getting up to since they started their four-night voyage on Monday (25th).

Day 1

Monday 25

Today we arrived on our boat; excited and raring to go, we unpacked and quickly got to briefing. The brief was short, snappy and informative. It covered things such as safety measures and where things were located on the boat.

In the nick of time, we were disembarking the shore top set sail. We then hoisted the Staysail after a couple of issues (I put it on wrong). However, this slight setback only took a matter of minutes to correct and was an interesting learning curve to say the least.

Our watch, Starboard (the best), cooked while the other watch took the job of helming us into Cowes. We chopped peppers, onions and cucumber as we were coming into port.

When we arrived, we indulged in our supper. It was perfect. We then showered and ended the night with games .

Day 2

Tuesday 26

This morning, we set off from Cowes. Then we hoisted the Main and Yankee 2 sails and proceeded to pull the Staysail up.

We sailed with no engine for a while and we went real fast. We approached our anchorage for the night and took down our sails.

We had a swim in the water and then ate our delicious dinner!
