The Tall Ships Youth Trust has been gifted a 16 metre Ketch by Bolton School. Tenacity of Bolton, built in 2007, provides the perfect sail training environment for young people. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Trust to grow its fleet and to expand its sail training offerings.

With this in mind, the Tall Ships Youth Trust has decided to operate the Tenacity of Bolton out of the North West with Whitehaven as her base. This opens up wonderful cruising grounds around Scotland, the Isle of Man, Ireland and North Wales as well as making sail training with the Trust more accessible to young people and groups in the area.

Open Days

We would like to invite the public to come on board and explore Tenacity of Bolton, learn more about her as a vessel and find out what you can expect from our sail training voyages and the programme for the year.

She will be open to the public on Saturday 11th April 2015.

For School and Youth groups, we encourage a planned visit for the Thursday 30th April 2015. If you are a school or organisation, Tenacity of Bolton is available for school children, youth groups, DofE students and groups such as Scouts & Guiding. If you wish to arrange a group visit to the Tall Ships Ketch, please contact our Youth Development Manager on 02392 832055 or email Chas Cowell.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is renowned for the excellent standard of sail training it delivers. Sailing is about teamwork and the Trust looks to develop self-esteem, confidence and life skills across all voyages. Over 3,000 people sail with the Trust every year and on average 70% of the young people are disadvantaged or disabled.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust has a fleet of 7 vessels, Stavros S Niarchos a magnificent 200ft Tall Ship, 4x 72ft Challenger Yachts, the Tall Ships Cat a 62ft Catamaran and the newest addition to the fleet Tenacity of Bolton, a 60ft Ketch.

Tim Law, Marketing and Operations Director commented “We are really looking forward to being up in Whitehaven. The marina offers fantastic facilities and the surrounding area opens up new waters for our sail training crews to explore. Having a new voyage programme for Tenacity of Bolton and the North West makes 2015 an exciting year for Tall Ships.“

The Tall Ships Adventures summer 2015 programme has just launched. Highlights include the Caribbean, the Biscay Challenge, the Fastnet and the Arc. Although focused on young people between the ages of 12-25, the Trust also offers exciting adult voyages for anyone up to the age of 80.
