Set sail for an adventure of a lifetime! Our youth voyages offer the fantastic opportunity to embark on a sail training adventure, broaden your horizons and make new friends. As well as learning to sail, you will be fully integrated into the crew, responsible for running the vessel 24/7 which includes learning to navigate and read charts, as well as assisting in the galley and helping to maintain the vessel.
You will gain so much experience from sailing with us, not only will you leave with new peers and buckets of enthusiasm but you will also have more confidence in yourself, learn how to take on a challenge and overcome hurdles, be willing to take on new responsibilities and hopefully leave with a passion for sailing. If you enjoy your time on board you can even come back and as a volunteer – a great way to spend your summer and term time holidays, and great on your CV when applying for schools, colleges, universities and future jobs!
Our youth voyages are split into two age groups 12 to 15 year olds and 16 to 25.
We have many groups returning to do repeat voyages with us year on year, we really pride ourselves with the foundations that we lay and the strong relationships that we maintain with the groups that come on board with us. If you work with young people and want to bring a group on board we can help! Whether it’s a voyage already in the programme or one in advance that you want to pencil in before our schedule are finalised we will try and accommodate you as best we can.
We can offer anything from day sails and weekend tasters to residential weeks.
We work with a variety of groups including but not limited to; youth groups, businesses, schools, colleges, charities, social clubs and government agencies.
Our Tall Ships Academy means you can work towards your RYA Start Yachting or RYA Competent Crew qualification. Some of the things you will learn include: parts of the yachts, rigging and types of sail, how to tie knots, keeping lookout for other vessels, man over board recovery and emergency drill, and steering the yacht under sail (see our brochure for the full list).

We are an approved Activity Provider for the DofE which means you can use your voyage to work towards a DofE Award. Any voyage which is four nights or more can be used to fulfil the Residential Section of your Gold DofE programme.
The Tall Ships Youth Trust is a sail training charity dedicated to the personal development of young people using sailing as a conduit. Through various types of fundraising, donations and grants, we are able to provide young people with bursaries to help get them on board. Our bursaries are available for 12 to 25 year olds and are intended to help young people to realise their true potential through the crewing of our fleet.
Funding is given priority to young people that are considered disadvantaged or disabled. We ask everyone that is interested in a bursary to fill out our online application form, once received we will aim to get back to you within 3-5 working days. If you require any funding advice, please contact your nearest Tall Ships Volunteer Support Group or contact the head office.
Find out if you qualify for a bursary by completing of our online Bursary Application Form.
